We had the traditional Timorese cuisine. The traditional staple food includes taro, yam, sweet potato, cassava, beans, maize, sago starch, or rice. Other traditional ingredients include vegetables, sea food, and meat. The East Timorese believe that bitter food prevents mosquito bites, which can cause critical infections. In the cities, the people's eating habit has some influence from the Indonesian cuisine and products. The food in the photos are feasts for guests, and the local people usually eat fewer dishes. One of the interesting East Timorese ingredients is edible canna lily (on the centre-left plate in the top-right breakfast photo), which tastes like firm sweet potato and is only eaten in a couple of regions of the world.
