We had a chance to eat salt-pickled palolo in East Timor, which are reproductive organs of marine worms detached into the sea. Once a year, the local people go to beaches and collect palolo floating in the sea on a full moon. It is considered as a seasonal treat and tastes like raw oyster. In reality, it is in vivid greenish blue unlike in the photo. Actually, we had this opportunity because of a staff of a guesthouse we stayed at, who kindly brought us a bottleful of palolo from her house even though we were slightly late for the season.
